Everyday Recommendations

Two guys walk in a bar...

It's not only the start of many jokes, but the start of a sometimes difficult situation for the vodka fan. Everybody has their favorite, but when the bar doesn't have it, then what? You need a backup plan.

We suggest you always ask for your two or three favorites. If nothing else, it lets the establishment know some patrons would like to see a deeper bar.

Next, ask if they have anything new that may have come in recently, or isn't in plain view yet. Maybe you'll get lucky and can try something different.

But the reality is, more likely than not, you're going to be offered just a hand full of options.Small bars sucked in by masterful marketing will probably consider "top shelf" to be Grey Goose, followed by Stoli and Absolut. Of the three, Stoli wins hands down. Basic and down to earth, it's hard to go wrong with the most famous label from Mother Russia.

Ketel One is our top shelf recommendation that can be found in most bars and restaurants. From Holland and made from wheat, it's clearly the best of the easy-to-find set.

Lastly, Skyy and Smirnoff Red Label are great values when faced with a limited selection.

When all else fails, and only bottom shelf well brands are available, then it's simply time accept the fact that today is a day to allow your vodka to become part of a mixed drink.
